TransformationTech#1: Dream Machine

Carsten Nicolai (of Raster-Noton designers & record label, aka Alva Noto) has just opened a show in Berlin consisting of his remake of a Dream Machine (image above); Brian Gysin & Ian Sommerville's mind-altering light emitting stroboscopic rotating cylinder invented in 1961. The original design was for the cylinder to be mounted atop a record player!

  1. Groovy... There is also a documentary about Gysin and the dream machines which is fun - "Flicker" (I have a mpeg copy if peps are interested in it) - Genesis P-Orridge, Marianne Faithful and Lee Ranaldo closing their eyes and reminiscing about dropping acid while enjoying the flickering lights... South London Gallery also installed a couple of them in a backroom recently - dunno if they are still there... !..!
